advice please. thanks.

there are some things i've been going over in my head lately and i just don't have the answers (not super serious stuff at all) so i thought i'd open it up to the blog world for a little bit of bloggy advice!

  • i've been using proactive for a loooooong time now and i've really just grown tired of it. i had fabulous skin in my teens and early twenties, but then my skin decided to go all teenager on me. anyhoo, i need some help in the facial cleanser dept. i tend to have combination skin and i like to feel the little scrubber things on my skin so help me out peeps. what should i be using??

  • my next 2 topics are about this little beauty here

this is my sweet and brilliant thinker of a 5 yr old finley grace. she thinks about every little thing and asks really good questions. let me preface this by saying that my parents are divorced and remarried to other people. my mom is granny, her husband is papa, my dad is poppy, and his wife is grandma pat. we recently went to visit my dad in california and as we all rode back from dinner together, finley asked me this question. "mom, do you marry one person when you're young and then when you get older you marry someone else like granny and poppy did?" my answer-"ummmm. let me think about that and talk to daddy and we'll get back to you". gotta love her. i'm stumped. we are stumped.

we are a christian family and believe one marriage FOREVER. now we know sometimes it aint all roses and it doesn't work out that way, but that is not what we are teaching our kids. am i making too big a deal out of this question? i just really feel like this question requires the "right" answer and i don't want to say the wrong thing and miss my chance to give her some good information.

let me give you some background for another question she recently asked. my older brother had a son when he was in college many years ago. that son is now 15. my brother got married last year. finley doesn't really spend that much time with my brother b/c we don't have the same mom and he doesn't live near me, so she really doesn't know much about his son either. so we were talking about my brother getting married and his new wife, etc. and very thoughtfully she says to me, "how can matthew have already had 15 birthdays if uncle mario just got married?" see, in her world people get married, then they have kids. she knows nothing different. not sure how to break it to her. HELP people!!!!!

i love that kid. she is so analytical and so stinkin smart and she really gives me a run for my money.

  • ok, now keeping in mind this same kid (if you can't already tell, she is very high maintenance and takes up a lot of my thinking). she thrives off of positive reinforcement and requires a lot of it to be ok. she also loves to be helpful and independent. i've been racking my brain trying to think of a chore/reward/behavior system. i think i left out the part about how she is VERY spirited, a.k.a. dramatic, sensitive, needy, controlling, intense. she is all of these things x 10. a tad mentally exhausting. all of these things manifest themselves by her throwing major tantrums, crying/screaming in her room for 30-45 minutes, lots of door slamming, and foot stomping. i just feel like her behavior could be altered if she had something to work for. does that make sense? she gets stressed if things don't go her way. i mean, really stressed. i can see it all over her. way too stressed for a 5 yr old. we were on the verge of putting her in play therapy. i love this girl so much i can't stand it and i just want her to be happy. a happy 5 yr old kid. and she is a lot of the time, but if things don't go her way.....woohoo! anyway, i need advice on some sort of behavior/reward system thingy. BIG HELP!!

  • ok, last thing. a father's day gift for the man that has everything. my husband. he shops way more than i do and takes up more of the closet. i know.....he's a different breed of man. he's special. love him to pieces. any advice???

SUYL-What are you reading?

today i'm linking up with kelly at kelly's korner for Show Us Your Life-What is your reading list?

reading is a true joy of mine. i love it more than most things and i really don't know what i'd do without books. sometimes my friend nikki and i will go to dinner and have the rest of our "date" at barnes and noble just walking and talking about all of the books.

i love the smell of books. the feel of books. i love bookmarks. i really have no desire to get an e-reader because i just love books.

i'm like kelly in that i like just plain old fiction books. fiction books about relationships of all kinds. i don't like any of that vampire stuff either. no sci fi or period books either. present day stuff works just fine for me

i have a ton of books right now and i'm pretty sure i'd get in big trouble (w/ the husband) if i dare purchase any more right now. there are a few that are on my radar right now and i hope to have them all read by the end of the year.

i'm in a book club and we've already read a few good ones this year.

this was a good, fun read

we also read....

i really enjoyed this book and it didn't take me very long to read it because it kept me interested.

and this month we are reading...

its a little slow to start off, but i'm not giving up on it just yet.

i have big plans to read these:

i love most all things jodi picoult. i think she is an amazing writer and she's always surprising.

not so sure we are going to keep this one on our list becaue it isn't getting good reviews and i really put a lot of stock into others opinions of books. we'll see.

i love to see people excited and crunk about Christ! i try every day to be more obedient and follow God's Word and i so look forward to reading this book. oh, and i love the shirts they have too :)

i've just started reading stuff by this author and so far so good.

so that's what i'm reading. what's going on in your library?

the jiggle challenge

Weight Loss Challenge

i've decided to link up with mrs. smith over at mr. and mrs. smith for the 6 wk weight loss challenge. yes, it is the 2nd week, but better late than never.

i'd love to lose a minimum of 15 lbs, but i'd be ecstatic with 20. the problem is my eating habits. and then there's the coke. i think i'm addicted. i'm talking about the cola, not the white powder.

so i love fast food, i'm a coke addict, and oh yeah....i hate working out. i hate working out, but i've resigned myself to doing it. i've really been trying and succeeding at doing a whole lot better with my workout routine and my husband has been really helpful with this. he has joined the gym with me and we take spin and boot camp class together.

you see, me and the gym don't get along so well. i've been on and off with it for about 5 yrs now. i'll get a membership, go for a while, then quit. i mean, get the cute workout clothes and everything. but this time? this time i've really stuck with it and i'm even looking for a 5k for the hubs and i to run together.

i don't usually weigh myself for obvious reasons so this will be a new thing for me. scary really. i didn't even look at the scale when i went to my weekly ob check ups.

my plan for losing the weight is portion control and working out since i don't want to give up the coke or fast food, if i'm being honest.

i'm really excited to be linked up and i can't wait to see everyone's progress!

wee bit wednesday

today i'm linking up with leigh ashley for wee bit wednesday. i think its pretty cool, so check her out.

{one} have you ever fainted? nope. never.

{two} what is your favorite casino game? the only one i know how to play-blackjack

{three} do you have a good sense of direction? I like to think so

{four} laptop or desktop? i am all over the laptop people

{five} what is your go-to hair style when having a bad hair day? ponytail. sometimes a hat with all my hair to the back, but that can get annoying b/c i HATE having my hair directly on my neck. and also the hat can give me a headache and make my forehead itch. i'm weired i know.

{six} do you read the newspaper on a daily basis? i really only "read" the sunday paper and that's just as i'm going through the ads. i get my news from everywhere other than the newspaper

{seven} do you have a favorite celebrity chef? umm, i guess maybe paula deen

{eight} what tv show would you like to make a guest appearance on? the office

{nine} do you have satellite radio in your car? yes. i don't know what i'd do without it. i loathe regular radio on most days and times.

{ten} what was the last movie that made you cry? probably the last movie i saw. i forgot what it was, but i cry on commercials and on any genre of movie. yes, i'm that girl and my husband is quite embarassed.

hope y'all have a had a wonderful wednesday!

top 2 tuesday

i'm linking up with taylor today over at the undomestic momma for top 2 tuesday. today's topic: top 2 drinks (alcoholic or non)

(1) COKE. i LOVE coke! but it has to be cold before poured and it has to be poured over ice. there is nothing better, especially when it has just the right amount of syrup and carbonation. i think i actually go through coke withdrawals if i go too long without it. and by the way, i think mcdonalds might have the best coke evah!

(2) WATER. it's not sexy, but i love it. it is so refreshing and it hits the spot on a hot day. ice cold water, no ice.

link up with taylor so i can see your top 2. happy tuesday!

monday musings

*we made the appointment today for our preconstruction meeting, which means that construction will begin on our house next friday. YIPPEE!!!

*i got to take dinner tonight to one of my favorite couples in our connection class at church. they are the brand new parents of presley kate and she is gorgeous!! presley is such a blessing after they have experienced an unthinkable heartache with their first child. love them!

*i had such a great weekend filled with family and fun. kobby and i were able to go out to dinner on friday night, sans kids. saturday was filled with t-ball games and then dinner with my good friend nikki. sunday was church, then fellowship and lunch with my church buds at fuzzy's.

*i really need someone to blog about the teen mom 2 reunion so i can comment like crazy about it.

*why have i not received an offer on my house people?!

*i think i have an obsession with books and shopping on and continually putting books on my wish list. it is definitely a problem that needs to be addressed.

*i haven't done my homework for my wednesday night grow class since it started over a month ago. i'm ashamed.

i hope your monday has been fantastic!

megan over at in this wonderful life is hosting a fabulous giveaway today. go check it out here....or not. better chance for me to win if you don't. i'm just sayin.

battle averted

so finley and i battle almost every morning about what she will wear to school and lately i've decided that i'm being a little too rigid about this. my way is to go into her room, get out the clothes she will wear for the day, and tell her to get dressed. well, her being the spirited child that she is, is sooooo not ok with that and lets me know it very loudly EVERY.SINGLE.MORNING. like she is throwing herself on the floor screaming and crying. she also fancies herself a bit of a fashionista and likes to put her own outfits together. i'm not one of those moms that will just let her dress herself from head to toe and not say a word about how much of a hot mess she looks like, but i have decided i'm willing to work "with" her to decide on her weekly outfits. so that's what we did tonight....
we picked out something we both liked for each day of the week

and landry just could not be outdone so we had to pick out her clothes for the week also. now, landry is far less intense than fin and she doesn't really care too much what she wears, but if mom is picking out sisters clothes then i have to do hers too.

so, another battle with my strong willed girl has been averted. not to worry i know there will be many more to come because this girl? she keeps me on my toes!

Saturday, April 9, 2011

monday musings

my younger chica seems to be hitting the terrible twos with full force....she's 3 1/2people. she is screaming NOOOO!! at an alarming rate, she's been potty trained for about a year now and she's beginning to think its funny to pee on herself. me and the husband aren't the least bit amused.

this wind today is a beast, but i'm really loving this weather.

so our house has been on the market since last thursday and we've had 2 showings. that may sound good, but i want at least one showing every day. we REALLY need to sell our house like yesterday. our appraisal came in way lower than we anticipated so we already have it listed for considerably less that we want and we are going to have to come to closing with a ton of money. we are basically paying someone to buy our house. anyone, anyone?

i'm really trying to come up with an incentive/chore/allowance type system for finley. we really gotta get her attitude and values under control (if that makes sense to anyone). i just really want her to be more appreciative, not so whiney, etc. i know, she's 5...but still. she is such a great kid and i know she will love to having goals she can set for herself and achieve. i just gotta figure out which route to go with her.

i'm longing for a girls day with my bestie, sumer. mani/pedi/lunch/shopping. ahhhh!

my husband is a gem. such a gift from God. he has been super helpful to a friend of mine that really needed his help this last week. i'm so proud of him and love him to pieces. oh, and he is the best father i know, besides my Heavenly One.

in case you didn't know, we are building a house!!! i am beyond thrilled. it is exactly what i wanted. i love the location. i love the builder. i love the house. i love the schools. this move is going to be so great for our family. we just finished picking out everything for the house so we will walk the property this week sometime w/ the builder and then construction will start. you can expect frequent updates once that gets underway. :)

happy monday peeps!
