book club friday

please excuse the spacing issues via blogger. thanks.

i'm linking up with heather today from blond...undercover blonde for book club friday.
so last time i linked up i was reading this.....
BIG.WASTE.OF.TIME! the first couple of stories were ok actually, but then i kept reading. bad idea. i stopped reading half way through. i've only done that once before with a book. this book is a book club read and i think the concensus with the rest of the girls is that they think it sucks too. moving on....

i've heard great things about this author and this book in particular has gotten really good reviews. it's about 3 adult sisters who learn some things about their mom late in her life. getting to see her as a real person, not just their mother.

as i get older i find myself more and more seeing my mom as a woman and it is kind of a strange thing because she's always just been my mom. i'm just starting the book and so far so good.

next up.....

i cannot wait to start this. LOVE the storyline and the reviews are great. i live and die by the reviews on barnesandnoble.com.

what are you reading this weekend?

breaking the ice-vol. 3

Perfectly imperfect Jenn

1) Tell one thing not many people know about you.
my name is spelled differently on my birth certificate. it only has one e at the end. i changed it in 6th grade b/c teachers kept mispronouncing it.

2) If you HAD to change your first name, what would you change it to?
i've never really thought about it, but i've always loved the name whitney. but i have a friend named whitney now, so that would be weird.

3) What are your 3 favorite songs of the moment?
rolling in the deep-adele (this is my windows down, turn it up loud, and dance embarassingly song)
this is the stuff-francesca battistelli
<

4) List 3 goals on your life's to-do list:
go bungee jumping
travel to australia
raise god fearing children
random list, i know. and not necessarily in that order

5) What is one of your favorite quotes?div>
it's not the number of breaths you take, it's the moments that take your breath away.
it's overused, i know, but i totally believe it

6) Fill in the blank: If I had an extra 10 dollars to spend . . I would buy __________?
colored pens or skittles

7) What’s your birth date?

july 7th

8) Do you have a hidden talent and if so what is it?
nope. all of my wonderful talents are out there for all to see

9) What do you think of when you hear the word "blue"?
patsy cline. well, really leann rimes

10) Finish this thought: I need . . .
to sell my house!!!

east texas goodies

last month we went to kobby's family reunion in east texas and had the best time shopping in the jeffersone general store. they had the cutest stuff.
my girls and i love us some cornbread so i was excited to find this cast iron cornbread cooker thingy. i can't wait to use it. i love cast iron.
the lunchboxes!!! i love these so much. the girls are finally going to "all day" school where they will be able to take a lunch and they are beyond thrilled to be eating lunch at school. kobby and i convinced them that these were really cute and that they loved them because initially they weren't as into them as we were. i still don't know if they are. finley had one a couple years ago and i had it personalized. it was all the rage.

now i've just got to find backpacks to match. i'm so excited and sad about this school year. my babies are growing up!

my birthday's coming.....

so....my birthday's coming up and there are a few things i've had my eye on here lately, just in case the hubby's reading :)

this is one of many camera straps i'm loving from etsy. i've really been using my camera a lot since i've sort of figured out how it works so i'd love a cute new strap for it. which brings me to my next need, i mean want.

my camera bag is the one we got when we bought the camera. a big clunky black nikon one. yukko. and ya'll know how much i love me a new bag. this is so stinkin cute and you can't even really tell that it's a camera bag.
and finally, i've been needing one of these for quite a while now.....

i mean really, who doesn't need an ipad? seriously people!! honestly though i'll be getting this beauty here (more pics to come soon) in the next couple of months so i guess it's fine if i don't get any of these other needs....;)
happy wednesday!!

happy father's day!!

this here is a post all about my sweet, sweet baby daddy.
you see, he is, in a word....amazing. THE best daddy on earth. seriously. he is unlike any father i've ever seen.
he has allowed me to stay at home with my girls so you would think i'd have to be taking on most of what goes on in the house and what's going on with the kids. nope. not even close. this man does baths every other night, he cooks dinner, he coaches most of their sports teams, he participates in anything daddy/daughter, he wakes up in the mornings with them and gets them breakfast, he helps put them to bed, and he gives me a break whenever i need it. oh, and he works his behind off to provide us with this blessed life we have. amazing huh? i told ya! and i'm sure i left some things out.

when we had girls i made it clear to him that he was to make himself their best friend and spend lots of quality time with them. we really want them to know their worth, to know God, and to know how they should be treated. he has taken on the daddy role with gusto. husband too :).
finley and landry think all daddys are like theirs, but one day they will know that he is truely something special and they are supremely blessed to have him as their own.

happy father's day boo. i hope you know what you mean to us. mwah!

book club friday

for some reason this post didn't publish on friday like i told it to, so here it is.....late. oops!

hi friends! it's book club friday over at heather's blog so i linked up cuz y'all know how i love me some books. seriously, my unread book collection is out of control at this point. right now i'm reading this....

this is basically a series of short stories by one author. i've just finished the first one and it was pretty good. this is a book that was highlighted and reviewed in people magazine some time last year. it received really good reviews so i thought i'd give it a try and put it on our book club reading list. i'll let you know how it is once i finish it.

before this book i was reading this....

SO good! this is one of those books that really just makes you sit back and take a look at how you live your life. it challenges you to live a life of complete obedience to God. great book!

so what are you reading? go link up with heather so we can all see!

we have brick....and other fun pics

yesterday kobby came home early (because he was off work for a golf charity event) so when he got home we decided to head over to take a look at our house and i'm so glad we did because.....

the garage is completely bricked!

view from the back of the house

so after checking out the house the girls requested we go to the park. now this was after a looooong day filled with swimming so i quickly said NO. but daddy, being the awesome daddy he is, says (and i quote) "don't worry honey, you can just sit there. i'll handle the kids". i heart him. so off to the park we went.

and just for kicks here are some pics of kobby's bday this weekend. swimming with the girls.

she is such a terror so i guess it helps that she is this stinkin cute

playtime foiled

Now that summer has begun I'm always trying to find a time suck. An activity to take up as much time as possible that can tire my kids out. I mean, seriously people, I'm awakened to the sweet sounds of "mom what are we doing today?".
So yesterday after swim class I decide we will have lunch at chick fil a and then they could play for a while. That whole outing should give me a good 2 hrs right?
Usually the chick fil a near my house is pretty nice and clean, but yesterday this is what we were met with when it was playtime.

Now usually I'm that mom that reports all wrongdoings in the play area. Yep, that's me. If you're 14 and 6 ft I'm telling on ya. If you're eating in there I'm telling on ya. If you're going up the slide and not down I'M TELLING! And I'm not ashamed to admit it cuz if one of those kids hurts my kid or if my kid has to walk on chewed up food there's gonna be a problem. but this is something i really could do nothing about because as far as i know there is no chick fil a rule about not being nasty.

So thanks nasty parent for ruining our playtime and forcing me to have to play outside in 100 degree heat just to make up for forcing my kids to leave chick fil a with absolutely no play. Preciate ya!

how the container store saved my life

well maybe that's being a little dramatic, but seriously it has made my life so much easier with this little addition to my purse...

via

you see, i so want to be that organized girl, but i just cannot seem to make that happen. i am the girl that shops a lot and is always getting those store coupons at checkout or in the mail and i'm always forgetting them at home when i'm out shopping at said store. this thing is going to be a lifesaver to me. and i owe it all to megan over at honey we're home. i wanna be as organized as her when i grow up. i also want my house to be as beautiful. a girl can dream can't she?

so, here's to my $3.99 lifesaver!
